5-methyl-2-hexanone/MIAK
MAK (Methyl n-Amyl Ketone), has the chemical formula C7H14O. It is a colorless, stable liquid with a pleasant odor, soluble in most organic solvents and slightly soluble in water. As a typical ketone compound, MAK exhibits properties characteristic properties of ketone compounds, including high solvent activity, low evaporation rate, low density, low surface tension, and high boiling point. These characteristics make it widely applicable as a solvent in coatings, inks, cleaning agents, and other industries. Compared to esters, aromatic hydrocarbons, and glycol ether solvents, MAK has a lower density but a similar evaporation rate, making it advantageous in high-solids coatings for reducing VOC content due to its low density and high reactivity. Additionally, MAK also serves as a polymerization solvent for high-solid acrylic resins. MAK is also used in edge bead removal (EBR) processes after spin coating.
